Confucius is well-known for his criticism of certain behaviors, as seen in the Analects. He was particularly critical of those who acted selfishly and without regard for others, believing that people should always strive to act with virtue and honor. For example, Confucius held strong views about proper behavior when interacting with one’s elders. In Chapter 17 he advises his disciples not to be disrespectful or neglectful towards their elders since this would lead to “disobedience against Heaven” (Analects 17:24). This suggests that Confucius believed disobedience towards one’s elders was sinful since it goes against the natural order of things.
