The Truth of Research Driving Emergency Management Policies and Procedures

Research is often seen as the key driver of policies and procedures in the field of emergency management. While it is true that research plays an important role in developing and implementing effective emergency management strategies, it is not the only factor to consider. Studies have shown that research only makes up one of the components necessary for the successful development and implementation of effective emergency management policies and procedures (Lai, 2019; Boles et al., 2018). Research can provide a great deal of insight into the development of effective emergency management policies and procedures, but it cannot be seen as the only factor in developing them. Other factors such as local knowledge, environmental conditions, culture, and economic factors must also be taken into consideration (Lai, 2019). It is also important to note that research alone is not enough to create effective policy change. Organizations must also take into account the implementation of the research and the level of adoption of the changes in the field (Boles et al., 2018).
