I chose to watch the video, Perception: What Did You See? (Chabris & Simons, 2020). In the video, Daniel Simons and Christopher Chabris discuss the power of perception and how it affects what we see. The video begins with an experiment in which participants watch a video of two groups of people passing basketballs to each other and are asked to count the number of passes made by one of the groups. The experiment reveals that when participants are asked to focus on counting the passes, they miss the fact that a person in a gorilla suit walks through the scene. This demonstrates that the mind is easily distracted when focused on a task and that it can miss important details. The experiment also reveals how our perception plays an important role in how we interpret the world.
