The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is an integral part of the United Nations Charter and has been a major driving force in international peace and security since its inception in 1945. It is composed of fifteen members, five of whom are permanent and ten of whom are elected for two-year terms. These members represent all regions of the world and have a variety of interests. As such, it is an important body to consider when assessing international peace and security issues (Enkil,2019). The UNSC is charged with the responsibility of maintaining international peace and security, and in cases of armed conflict, the UNSC is responsible for determining the appropriate action to take. This is done through the implementation of sanctions or the authorization of the use of force.
