The Geography of Mexico

Mexico is a large, diverse country located in North America, bordered by the United States to the north and Guatemala and Belize to the south. It has a varied landscape, featuring coastal plains, central plateaus, and mountain ranges. Major water bodies include the Gulf of Mexico, the Pacific Ocean, and the Caribbean Sea ( “Mexico”, World Atlas). Mexico also has a tropical climate, with warm temperatures year-round and varying levels of rainfall. Mexico has a rich political geography, composed of 32 individual states. In addition, Mexico City is the country’s federal district and the seat of the federal government. Mexico is a federal constitutional republic, with a presidential system of government. It is a member of the United Nations and one of the Group of 20 major economies. Economically, Mexico is a developing market economy and the world’s 15th-largest economy by nominal GDP. It has a large and diverse economy, including trade, tourism, manufacturing, and services (Mexico”, Encyclopedia Britannica). Culturally, Mexico is home to a variety of ethnic and linguistic groups. Spanish is the most widely spoken language, but numerous indigenous languages are also spoken.
