Immigration has been an integral part of America’s culture and identity since its founding. In recent years, the population of immigrants in the United States has grown to unprecedented levels, with people from all walks of life representing a vast range of cultural backgrounds and experiences (U.S. Department of Homeland Security 2018). As such, it is important to recognize the friction that different immigrant cohorts bring to American culture as a whole.

The first type of friction comes from language barriers between immigrant groups and existing citizens who may have difficulty communicating or understanding each other due to their differing native tongues. This can lead to misunderstandings about norms and values or create feelings of isolation for those without access to basic services or assistance (Chiswick et al., 2009). Additionally, there may be cultural clashes between different ethnicities when it comes to certain traditions or practices which could lead to discrimination or hostility if not addressed promptly (Katz & Zolna 2017) .

For instance, some recent immigrants may compete with already established citizens for job opportunities thereby creating resentment amongst those affected by this change (Gans 1992). Similarly ,some newcomers find themselves at odds over issues like welfare distribution given fact that foreign born individuals tend receive less public benefits compared with native-born citizens (Lee 2013 ).
Finally , political differences also play role terms tensions arise when attempting integrate more diverse population into single locality – especially case areas where one group predominates demographically speaking (Frey 2000 ) .
