Standards and Guidelines to Prevent Intellectual Property Theft

***PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY***

Based on the Unit V REM Case Study Scenario, which was the reading assignment for this unit, research specific intellectual property theft incidents as well as standards and guidelines to prevent intellectual property theft. This is a two-part assignment.

For Part I of this assignment, choose two specific incidents of intellectual property theft from your research. Each incident must have occurred within the last 5 years. Your specific incidents may range from patent infringement and corporate espionage to theft by cyberattack or even theft of information by a disgruntled employee. Do not use any of the examples from the unit lesson. When choosing your incidents, be sure that enough information is available to meet the assignment requirements. Specifically, include the following details for both incidents:

a brief description of the selected case of intellectual property theft,
discussion of the existing security protocols in the organization prior to the event,
analysis of the organizations response and changes made after the incident, and
discussion of the legal and ethical issues involved in the security breach.

For Part II of the assignment, research standards and guidelines to prevent theft of intellectual property. Propose two standards or guidelines for REM to help prevent the types of intellectual property theft that you covered in your two incidents in Part I of this assignment (i.e., one specific guideline for each incident above). A complete set of intellectual property standards and guidelines for a multinational corporation would not fit within the scope of this assignment, which is why you are only asked to propose two specific guidelines.
