The practice of nursing can be broken down into three separate but interconnected components- assessment/diagnosis (science), intervention (art), and evaluation/outcomes (science). Assessment/diagnosis focuses on collecting data through interviews, observation techniques etc., then using scientific methodology such as evidence-based practice to diagnose a condition or illness based on the gathered information. Interventions are individualized actions that involve responding with empathy towards patients by utilizing interpersonal skills such as communication techniques which require sensitivity towards their feelings. As nurses use both intuition along with clinical judgment when making decisions about interventions they must consider how their actions will affect the patient holistically without compromising safety; this is where the art comes into play. Finally evaluation/outcomes requires nurses to reflect upon how successful their interventions were at achieving desired outcomes for patients within an ethical framework.

When assessing patients using scientific methods alone can be inadequate due to its focus on measurable parameters whereas integrating art enables nurses to take into account non-measurable factors such as values or emotions while still following evidence-based clinical models in order to provide quality patient care tailored specifically for each person’s needs. Art also brings creativity which allows nurses think outside traditional boundaries when facing difficult situations not easily addressed through typical approaches employed by science; understanding unique qualities found in each individual person promotes more meaningful connections between nurse –patient relationships while encouraging collaboration among healthcare professionals who bring different perspectives or experiences resulting in better treatment plans that encompass all areas relevant for providing comprehensive care specific to one’s situation .

Therefore it is clear why incorporating both science and art together is necessary; allowing practitioners utilize both fields increases capability of diagnosis ,interventions & outcomes thereby improving effectiveness and efficiency when delivering services resulting higher levels of satisfaction from clients whom receive adequate attention paid towards caring for their needs despite any potential complexities existing within diagnoses or treatments involved . Ultimately synthesizing these two components leads us closer towards our goal achieving optimal health care delivery for everyone.
