Do your research on two segments of American society. You can use research to back up your persuasive argument. Data from peer-reviewed sources like Pew, Gallup, Brookings or Federal Agency, such as U.S. Census Bureau, can be used for research. You should devote at least 250 words each to each group.
1. Name a person or group that has had less rights than others in American society since 1633. The group could identify themselves by race, religion and gender. Over time this group has been able to overcome many of their limitations. Use research to find an example of this group’s success.
2. Name a person or group that has had to be treated less favorably in American society since 1633. The group could identify itself by its race, religions, gender, cultural or historic background, handicap, sexual preference and geographic location. It might also be able to work, study, get a job, immigrant status, or other factors. This group is not able to overcome the obstacles they face over the years. Use research to find an example of this group’s lack of success.
3. Finish your research with 100 words of discussion on why the success or failures of one group are different from those in another group. Compare and contrast these groups to find out what you learned. How can we as individuals help others achieve equal rights?
