Organizational Conflict Effectiveness

Organizational conflict, defined as “the expressed struggle between at least two interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce resources, and interference from others in achieving their goals” (Robbins & Judge, 2019), can have both positive and negative effects on organizational effectiveness. On one hand, conflict can lead to the generation of new and innovative ideas, as well as increased participation and commitment from team members (Rahim, 2022). It can also facilitate the airing of diverse viewpoints and the resolution of problems (Robbins & Judge, 2019). However, excessive or poorly managed conflict can have detrimental effects on organizational effectiveness. It can lead to decreased productivity, increased absenteeism and turnover, and damage to interpersonal relationships (Rahim, 2022).
