Homo sapiens are the most cognitively and socially advanced hominins that have ever existed. Homo sapiens have a fully human skeleton from the neck down, allowing them to run for long distances more efficiently than their predecessors (Rosenberg et al., 2017). Furthermore, Homo sapiens have the ability to make better tools, including throwing with force and accuracy (Boesch et al., 2018). Homo sapiens have a relatively large brain size, allowing for increased cognition and socialization (Rosenberg et al., 2017). This increased brain size also enabled Homo sapiens to build huts and use fire for cooking, which allowed for more advanced hunting strategies (Boesch et al., 2018). Homo sapiens were also the first hominins to leave Africa in abundance (Rosenberg et al., 2017). This allowed humanity to colonize the rest of the world and spread their advanced cognitive and social capabilities.
