Health care workers are some of the most important members of society, yet they often go unrecognized and unprotected when it comes to their safety and wellbeing. Governments should take more responsibility for protecting these individuals by implementing policies that ensure they have all necessary resources available to them while on duty.

First, governments should work to provide health care workers with adequate personal protection equipment (PPE). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all healthcare workers wear PPE such as masks, gloves, gowns or face shields when interacting with patients (1). Providing these supplies can help reduce the risk of infection and illness in those who are providing direct patient care.
