Endocrine Disorder: Diabetes

One common endocrine disorder is diabetes mellitus, which is characterized by high levels of glucose in the blood due to a deficiency in insulin production or insulin resistance (American Diabetes Association, 2018). Common signs and symptoms of diabetes include increased thirst and urination, fatigue, and blurred vision (American Diabetes Association, 2018). Screening for diabetes can be done through various assessment tools, such as the fasting plasma glucose test, oral glucose tolerance test, or the A1C test (American Diabetes Association, 2018). These tests measure the level of glucose in the blood and can help diagnose diabetes or prediabetes. If diabetes is suspected based on the screening assessment, recommended diagnostic tests may include a blood glucose test to confirm the diagnosis and assess the severity of the disorder (American Diabetes Association, 2018).
