The intersection between the fields of corrections and human services has evolved significantly over time. Corrections, or the field that oversees and administers criminal justice systems, is largely intended to punish individuals for their transgressions against society’s laws. On the other hand, human services are focused on providing assistance to vulnerable populations to advance their overall health and wellbeing (Rothman et al., 2019). Although traditionally viewed as separate entities, in recent years there have been increasing efforts to combine these two fields in order to better meet individuals’ needs while keeping communities safe (Gendreau & Cullen, 2018).
