According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 17.9 million deaths annually (WHO, 2020). CVD includes conditions such as coronary heart disease, heart failure, and stroke. Risk factors for CVD include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and diabetes (CDC, 2020). Research has shown that CVD disproportionately affects certain racial and ethnic groups, with higher rates among Black and Hispanic populations (CDC, 2020). Additionally, CVD rates tend to be higher among individuals with lower income and education levels (Kreps et al., 2019). In the United States, CVD is a significant public health problem. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 610,000 people die of CVD each year in the United States, which is about 1 in every 4 deaths (CDC, 2020).
