Bullying in the healthcare

The Journal of Nursing Management in 2020, bullying is a pervasive problem in the nursing profession and can have serious negative impacts on both the victim and the overall work environment (Brennan, 2020). Bullying can lead to decreased job satisfaction and productivity, increased turnover, and can even compromise patient safety if it leads to errors or suboptimal care (Brennan, 2020). Professional standards of practice should be demonstrated in this situation to help rectify the issue and maintain a professional and respectful work environment. The American Nurses Association Code of Ethics states that nurses have a responsibility to “promote a culture of respect, civility, and collaboration” (American Nurses Association, 2019). This includes speaking up and reporting any incidents of bullying, and actively working to create a culture of respect and inclusion.
