Newman’s statement about “nurse-client relationships often beginning during periods of disruption, uncertainty, and unpredictability in patient’s lives” (Smith & Parker, 2015, p. 288) speaks to the fact that nurses must often step up to provide care and support for their patients during times when they are struggling with difficult circumstances or feeling overwhelmed by life changes. For example, I recently cared for a patient who had been diagnosed with cancer and was facing an uncertain future. This patient was understandably overwhelmed by her diagnosis and found it difficult to cope with the physical pain as well as the emotional anguish she felt every day. As her nurse, I provided compassionate care while also offering valuable resources such as information on support groups and counseling services which helped her gain a sense of control over her circumstances.

In addition to providing medical care, I also worked hard to create a strong relationship with my patient so that she felt comfortable communicating openly about what she was going through. This allowed me to get a better understanding of how best to meet her needs both physically and emotionally which ultimately led us towards successful outcomes for both our roles in this process. By creating an environment where trust could be established between us, I was able to offer my patient the necessary emotional support required during these trying times while also providing quality healthcare when needed most at same time showing respect dignity deserve no matter situation may find themselves within given moment in life.
