Many people feel negative feelings toward elders because of a lack of understanding about aging and sometimes even prejudice. People may fear touching or interacting with older people due to concerns about their frailty, physical health, or mental acuity. They also may be uncomfortable talking about sensitive topics related to aging such as death, end-of-life care, and loss.

As a nurse I can help overcome these fears by providing consistent compassionate care that is tailored to the individual needs of each patient while also educating patients and family members on the realities of aging. I will take time listen to what my patients are saying me in order to better understand their goals and expectations for their care. Additionally I will strive ensure that all patient interactions are respectful dignified at all times regardless age condition patient’s life stage is in.
