The teen birth rate has been steadily declining over the past 10 years in both my state (New York) and my local county (Queens). According to data from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), New York’s overall adolescent birth rate decreased 34% between 2009-2018—from 28 births per 1,000 females aged 15-19 years old to 18 births per 1 000 females over that same time period. Similarly Queens County saw a decrease in its adolescent birth rate—dropping 30% between 2009-2018 from 28 births per 1000 female aged 15-19 year olds 25 birth per 1000 female aged 15-19 year olds over that same time period.
