Analysis of Aspirin Content Using Titration
Titration is a widely used procedure that is used to analyze the content of aspirin. This technique involves measuring the amount of a known concentration of a reagent that is required to react with a known amount of the sample (Szporny, 2020). Titration is a highly accurate and precise method for analyzing the content of a sample. In this experiment, the content of aspirin was determined using titration. The experiment involved the analysis of a sample of aspirin tablets. The tablets were labelled as containing 300 mg of aspirin per tablet. The total mass of the tablets was 6.8987 g. The tablets were powdered and 0.5429 g of the powder was then added to 30.0 mL of 0.487 M sodium hydroxide solution. The mixture was then boiled gently for 10 minutes. The excess alkali in the cooled solution was titrated with 0.482 M hydrochloric acid solution and 20.2 mL was required for neutralization. The 1:2 mole ratio of aspirin (C9H8O4) to NaOH was used to calculate the percentage of aspirin in the sample as compared to the labelled claim (Kumar, 2020). Cont…
