My impression of the Caribbean is one of a region rich in culture and vibrancy, with a diverse range of economies, people, and ecosystems. It is a place that has faced immense struggles throughout its history but still perseveres and thrives today.

In my readings this week I learned about the various colonial powers that have held sway over the region throughout time, from Spain to France to England to the United States. The impact of each nation’s rule can be seen in everything from language and style to cuisine. This diversity creates an incredibly unique culture that sets it apart from other parts of the world.
