The queer community is often excluded from public discourse and disaster policy, research and response. This exclusion contributes to the lack of visible representation of LGBTQI voices in textbooks discussing gender and disaster. In order to better utilize feminist frameworks to support the queering of disaster policy, research, and response, we must strive for an intersectional approach that accounts for gender identity, sexual orientation, class, race/ethnicity and other factors that shape how individuals experience disasters.
