Global health issues are complex and multi-faceted, making it difficult for countries to address them effectively. One of the most pressing global health issues today is non-communicable diseases (NCDs). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), NCDs are “the leading cause of premature death and disability in the world”. These include chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and respiratory disease. In 2015, they accounted for 41 million deaths worldwide – or 71% of all deaths globally that year.

The approach taken by the United States towards addressing this issue has primarily been focused on prevention through improving access to healthcare services and developing better public health programs. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was introduced in 2010 with a goal of providing expanded access to health insurance coverage for individuals and families who did not have it previously. The ACA also requires that insurers provide certain essential benefits including preventive care services related to NCDs such as screenings for high cholesterol levels or colon cancer and immunizations against hepatitis B virus, which can increase risk for certain types of cancers if left unchecked. Additionally, many states have adopted legislation allowing pharmacists to dispense specific medications without requiring a physician’s prescription under collaborative practice agreements or protocols set forth by law – an effort aimed at making services more accessible and affordable particularly in rural areas where there may be limited access to healthcare providers otherwise trained in diagnosing these conditions.
