In countries with high levels of technological advancement, where citizens have access to sophisticated tools like computer hardware, software and networks, there are more opportunities for more dangerous forms of cybercrime. For example, organized crime syndicates might take advantage by setting up elaborate schemes involving data theft or ransomware attacks against businesses or organizations with sensitive information. Similarly, these countries may be attractive targets for nation-state sponsored espionage operations as well as hacktivist groups attempting to disrupt critical functions or gain political leverage.
