2. Is there an ethics of war in The Iliad?  Are the deaths of Dolon and Hector ethical?  Why or why not?

The Iliad by Homer is a classic epic poem that explores the themes of war, heroism and morality. Throughout the text, there are many examples of ethical behavior in warfare; however, it can also be argued that certain actions taken by characters violate these principles. In particular, the deaths of Dolon and Hector are two incidents which raise important questions about whether or not their killings were ethically justified.

2. Is there an ethics of war in The Iliad?  Are the deaths of Dolon and Hector ethical?  Why or why not?

When viewed from an ethical standpoint, Dolon’s death does not appear to be morally justifiable as he was tricked into revealing information through deception before being brutally killed (Book X). Even though his actions could be considered illegal under the laws of war – since he was spying on behalf of Troy instead of fighting honorably–his death still seems unjust given that Odysseus exploited his naivety and outsmarted him rather than engaging in a fair fight. This raises serious ethical issues regarding how far individuals can go when trying to achieve victory during warfare especially when it comes to utilizing tactics such as deception or manipulation against those weaker then themselves .
