My scenario for the tragedy of the commons focuses on a hypothetical community that shares access to a lake and its resources. This lake is located in a rural area and serves as both their main source of drinking water, and an important fishing spot for the local population. As access to this lake becomes more widely available, more people use it for recreational purposes such as swimming or motorboat activities. This increase in traffic leads to over-harvesting of the fish within the lake, polluting runoff from surrounding agricultural properties, loss of habitat due to increased boating activity, and eventually ecological degradation (Hardin, 1968).
