The Michaelis-Menten Kinetics of Catalytic Subunits of Acetyltransferase (ATCase)

The Michaelis-Menten kinetics is a mathematical model used to describe the rate of enzyme-catalyzed reactions. It has been used to explain the behaviour of the catalytic subunits of acetyltransferase (ATCase) when acting alone. ATCase is a family of enzymes that are involved in biosynthesis, and are found in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The model predicts that the rate of ATCase-catalyzed reactions is dependent on the concentration of the two substrates, acetyl-CoA and histone H3. In other words, when the substrate concentration is increased, the reaction rate increases, but at a diminishing rate. This is known as saturation kinetics. The Michaelis-Menten equation has been verified experimentally in a number of studies. For example, a study by Lee et al. (2016) demonstrated that the catalytic activity of ATCase was dependent on the concentration of its two substrates. Similarly, a study by Sheng and Yang (2021) showed that the activity of ATCase was also affected by the pH of the reaction environment.
