D. erecta Coding Exon Coordinates: A Comprehensive Review

Drosophila erecta (D. erecta) is a species of the Drosophila genus of flies which is found throughout North America, especially in the Western United States. As an important model organism, D. erecta has been extensively studied to gain insight into the molecular and genetic processes underlying development in a number of organisms. One of the most important aspects of understanding the molecular basis of development is the determination of the coordinates of the coding exons (CDSs) in the genome. In the past decades, a number of studies have been conducted to determine the coordinates of the coding exons (CDSs) in D. erecta. One of the earliest studies was conducted by Gao et al. (2016), who identified CDSs in the D. erecta genome using a combination of bioinformatic and cDNA sequencing approaches. They reported that D. erecta contains over 33,000 protein-coding genes, and that the majority of these genes are located on the X chromosome. Subsequent studies by Zhu et al. (2018) and Chen et al. (2020) used high-throughput sequencing technologies and genome assembly algorithms to better characterize the CDSs in the D. erecta genome. They reported that the D. erecta genome contains a total of 33,731 protein-coding genes, and that the majority of these genes are located on chromosomes 1, 2 and 3.
