Else-Quest and Hyde, in “Intersectionality and Social Work Practice,” discuss intersectionality and how it can be used to better understand and address the challenges and unique experiences of individuals from multiple marginalized communities. The authors note that lesbians of color who identify as women of color can face triple oppression. This refers to multiple forms of discrimination that they may be subject to due to being women of color, lesbians, or people of color. Triple oppression may manifest itself in many ways. It can include discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender and race as well as intertwining violence and microaggressions.
