Necessary cellular machinery that reduces Cyclin B concentration (M-cyclin), after the Metaphase/Anaphase checkpoint
This critical checkpoint in cell cycle regulation is called the metaphase/anaphase. This checkpoint must be made more effective by reducing the level of M-cyclin (cyclin B). It is done by the anaphase promoting complex (APC), as well as the ubiquitin proteasome system. APC, a multi-subunit complex of protein subunits that controls the anaphase/metaphase transition is large. By targeting M-cyclin (cyclin B) for ubiquitination it acts, which is the process by which proteins are marked for destruction by UPS. Cdc20 (Harms & Lohka 2016, 2016) activates the APC.
