The EC Enzyme Catalytic Classification System (EC Enzyme Codification System) is a system that categorizes enzymes according their catalytic property. This system was developed by the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. First, there are oxidoreductases. The enzymes in this group catalyze electron transfers between molecules. They can be used to either reduce or oxidize molecules. The type of reaction that oxidoreductases catalyze can further be divided into subgroups.
