Anorexia nervosa is the more common disorder. Anorexia Nervosa can be described as an intense fear of weight gain, extreme food restriction, and distorted body images. Anorexic people often weigh significantly less than what they consider healthy for their height and age. Bulimia Nervosa can be described as a pattern of binging followed by purging behavior such self-induced vomiting and the use laxatives. If left untreated, both anorexia nervosa and bulimia could have grave health consequences. All ages, genders and cultures can suffer from eating disorders. However, they are more common among females. A history of weight loss, body dissatisfaction and low self-esteem are all risk factors.
