Americans with Disabilities Act is a federal law which prohibits discrimination in employment, transport, public accommodation, or other areas. To ensure everyone has equal access to programs, services and activities, the ADA mandates that individuals with disabilities receive reasonable accommodation. Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, (IDEA), is a federal law which guarantees that every child with disability has access to an appropriate and free public education. IDEA requires schools to provide IEPs (individualized education plans) for students with disabilities. These IEPs outline the goals, accommodation and support that the student will need in order to be successful in school. Numerous states have adopted laws to provide support for persons with developmental disabilities.
