The ELISA test works by detecting the presence of autoantibodies, which are antibodies that attack the body’s own tissues. During the test, samples of the patient’s blood are collected and then exposed to antigens, which are molecules that stimulate the production of antibodies. The ELISA test can detect if the patient is positive for autoantibodies. The diagnostic test will be positive if the patient has autoantibodies that bind to antigens.
